«iRIX takes care of our challenges as if it were their own.
In the process, solutions are worked out together that persist in practice.»

Challenge

The Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG CKW, based in Lucerne (Switzerland), produces, trades and distributes electricity to both business and private customers.  Like all energy market participants, it faces major challenges such as:

  • falling electricity prices
  • building up new business areas and entry of new markets
  • liberalization of the electricity market; free choice of energy supplier for private customers
  • digitalisation of the electricity market; automated provider switching with a click of a mouse

The erroneously structured DWH and its resulting reporting are only partially sufficient to meet ever-changing requirements. This results in:

  • data is trapped in silos and can not be combined well
  • new requirements are being implemented very slowly or not at all
  • many business users are turning to Excel applications
  • new technologies or organizational forms are not being used

Solution

iRIX was commissioned to carry out a preliminary business intelligence study and is now accompanying its implementation.

The following table shows the work already carried out (status september 2017).

In the implementation of the various sub-steps, high attention was paid to balance in terms of technology, governance respectively organization and added value for business users.  We would like to highlight the following results:

  • implementation of a new and replacement of an existing data mart (business plan)
  • establishment of Scrum in the BI team (organization/governance)
  • introduction of a DWH automation tool (technology)

Added value for the customer

  • no break between consulting, implementation and operation
  • means to better embed BI in the entire organization
  • clear BI roadmap with concrete options for action
  • future-oriented architectureGrafik 2 CKW en
  • development of new organizational forms (Scrum)
