Challenge

On websites, advertising must not pop up in an uncontrolled manner; the web user must have the possibility to agree or reject this content. This is required by the General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR, which has been in force since May 2018. The Interactive Advertising Bureau, IAB Inc., as a non-profit organization, wants to offer advertising companies a complete solution as soon as the regulation comes into force. Companies should process the data protection provisions of their digital marketing via the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework, TCF, which provides web users with all the necessary parameters to control advertising content and keeps the provisions up to date. Here iRIX should help to implement the technical concept for the TCF.

 

 

Solution

iRIX uses technical components to build the framework for the IAB, which ultimately links the obligations of companies and the rights of consumers on one platform. Companies register on the IAB Platform for a subscription fee and are provided with all relevant parameters for data protection regulations. These will be placed in front of future advertisements when consent is obtained. The web user can influence his personal advertising settings at any time and thus obtain the legally required control over the advertisements placed with him. Currently, more than 600 providers and over 200 consent administrations are part of the TCF.

 

 

Benefits

IAB can offer its customers in the EU area a legally compliant handling of digital marketing. Digital TCF member have a guarantee that the currently applicable data protection regulation will be complied with and thus protect them from lawsuits. The registration process is automated and follows the design guidelines of IAB. TCF registrars can change their advertising settings via profile update at any time in the web frontend. The list of all registered companies as well as the translation of all purposes into 25 languages is published automatically. All data is stored on European servers as specified.
